Positive: We had the pleasure of spending three nights at VillaMezzo and have gathered a few observations that we hope can be used constructively to improve the guest experience. We were well looked after by the manager, Andreas, and his staff; waiters, kitchen and cleaners. We stayed in the finest deluxe room—facing the Buddha statue—offering a breathtaking view of the bay and the eternal swells and tides of the Indian Ocean. These rooms are situated at 140 meters above sea level; swallows do their flybys during the day, and the bats at night. The rooms are functional and fresh, featuring a comfortable bed and well-functioning AC and Wi-Fi. However, they lack fully covering blackout curtains. Mezzo serves breakfast at your patio according to your preferences. Make sure to order the day before. And please be sure to tell them that you want a discrete knock on your door when it’s served.
Negative: Here are our two most important observations for developing: 1. The front desk staff need to significantly improve their English skills; this is practically a prerequisite if Mezzo wishes to be listed on Booking.com and being exposed to global travelling. 2. Mezzo is primarily a beach club that plays very loud music for outside guests—every single afternoon and evening. This is the core business! We advise Mezzo to consider what kind of business they want to run and develop: a beach club or a hotel? In our opinion, these two concepts are not entirely compatible. For instance, it is impossible to enjoy a conversation while dining in the restaurant—or even while sitting on the private patio. The base of the very powerful speakers are effectively drowning the mesmerising atmosphere of the tropical night; night jars, cikadas and the distant sound of breaking waves. We’re not party poopers! Pumping base, pro DJ curation and parties are enjoyable once or twice a week, but not when occurring every day starting at 4 PM and going on till late with a few shorter breaks. Then it’s invasive. At least for us. However, go ahead if you’re a true Explorer of less known and non-touristy parts of this beautiful and friendly country! With some patience, a smile and Bahasa Indonesia loaded in your translation app you will enjoy the stay and experience. Lastly, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the local fishing communities and a fish market. Fascinating!
